Artist statement—
The Kohinoor is one of the largest diamonds in the world and was mined in the Indian subcontinent. From the mughal dynasty to the possession of the leader of the Sikh empire, Ranjit Singh, it has a long history of ownership. It ultimately came into the questionable possession of the British empire and became a crown jewel.
To this day, rightful ownership of the Kohinoor is disputed. The Kohinoor tells the long history of invasion and colonization in India. This mural captures the beauty and allure of the diamond while sharing its story and shedding light on India's history.
“…it’s a small story of a big part of Indian history.”
