Artist statement—

The artwork pays homage to North Indian royalty by creating an illusionary 3D space that transports you into the fragments of that era. The wall was realized by abstracting traditional motifs of the royal palaces and jewelry adorned by nobles. The colours evoke a sense of nostalgia and the warmth of Indian summers, while the graphic approach to the design displays a contemporary space for viewers to engage with.

At its core, the adorned archway represents the entry point of the original South Asian immigrants who settled in the Punjabi Market area. The mural is a celebration of the South Asian diaspora that has contributed greatly to the diverse cultural landscape of Canada.

“You become a little part of that overall culture of the place, and that’s a rewarding feeling”
